Vulvaplasty



What does it try to accomplish?

Reduces the protuberance of the inner lips of the vulva if they unusually over-developed. Such a situation can cause embarrassment and can lead to soreness because of the friction with clothing.


How is it done?

The inner lips are trimmed back to a more usual size.


How long does the operation take?

45 minutes.


How long is the stay in the clinic?

1 night or day case.


What type of stitches are used?

Dissolvable.


What type of dressing is used?

None.


Is there any bruising?

Slight.


Is there any swelling?

Quite marked for a few days.


What pain will there be?

Can be very tender for two weeks. Local anaesthetic cream is given to take home.


Where are the scars and how bad are they?

Inside the large outer lips of the vulva.


How long does it take to recover?

1 week.


When is the final result seen?

3 weeks.


How long does it last?

Permanent.




Common Complications
Early: There are still likely to be irregularities in the inner lips after they have been trimmed.
